PETER'S BIRTHDAY PARTY!!
This Wednesday happens to be the actual birthday of our own Peter Flahiff, and we want everybody there to help us celebrate! May 1st is the date, and we're so lucky that this year it happens to fall on a Wednesday...so make sure to be there to give him a big, memorable birthday dance this year! He's really looking forward to this. And, just as a passing note, he enjoys Buster Keaton movies, the writings of P.G. Wodehouse, and is a frequent visitor to Starbucks -- who now offer a clever little "gift card" which can have any amount of gift money put on it, and is the size and shape of a credit card. We only mention these things in passing. No reason.
NEW SERIES OF LINDY HOP CLASSES BEGINS
NEW SERIES OF LINDY HOP CLASSES BEGINS
We are so excited about our new Tuesday night classes in El Segundo! This is the first time that we have been able to offer our Lindy Hop classes during the week, so if you or anyone you know have not been able to take our classes because the Sunday time was inconvenient, THIS IS FOR YOU!!! We are also really pleased with the venue we get to use -- the Rebekah Hall is a lovely place, with its OWN PARKING LOT!!! And lots of adjacent street parking to boot! This will be great news to anyone who has struggled with street parking in Manhattan Beach, which we think is just about everyone.
Remember, this new Tuesday night offering is our Level One and Level Two Lindy Hop, a great way to learn your basics in swing dancing, or to brush up on what you know, or learn the other role (men learning to follow, ladies learning to lead...) We are hoping for a great turnout for this new night! Come along and dance with us at this beautiful hall!

FRANKIE MANNING'S BIG APPLE!!!
FRANKIE MANNING'S BIG APPLE!!!
MAY 5, 12, 26, JUNE 9, 16, 23 2002
PRICE: $80 (That's $6.67 an hour!)
No partner required this time!
By popular demand, we are offering Frankie Manning's Big Apple as our Performance Class this time around. This is a high-energy, non-partnered routine originally created by legendary Lindy Hopper Frankie Manning in 1938. The routine assembles dozens of classic Lindy Hop boogie steps and movements that will be a HUGE benefit to your dancing! These are the movements that were a part of dancing in the 1930's and 40's and having a good knowledge of them will give you insight into your other swing dancing and help bring it up another level.
MAXWELL'S AT THE ARGYLE!
MONDAY, MAY 6TH 2002
Rusty and Peter will be giving a spirited performance at one of Southern California's newest swing night spots, Maxwell's at the Argyle! Hosted by none other than our dear pal, Maxwell DeMille, this posh club is just dripping with class! And next Monday, the Bill Elliott Swing Orchestra will be playing for the night, and blowing the roof off!!! And as if that weren't enough, our own Rusty and Peter, joined by Nick Williams and Tise Chao, will be on hand to perform two numbers from their great show, "Swingin' the Century". They are looking forward to performing these numbers with the Bill Elliott Swing Orchestra again, and really excited about performing at this gorgeous venue. The club only holds about 200 people, so we recommend that you make your dinner reservations immediately to make sure you get a chance to see these great performers with this amazing band at this stunningly beautiful new club!
So mark your calendars now and call in your dinner reservations for an incredible night of entertainment at Maxwell's at the Argyle! For more information, click HERE!
SYLVIA SKYLAR TO TEACH
SHAG/BALBOA BASICS AND CHARLESTON VARIATIONS
We are so happy to announce that two of our students and friends, Melissa and Doug, tied the knot last Saturday in "a real swing dance wedding." Some of you may have been to weddings before that had a bit of swing dancing or music involved, but this was swingin from beginning to end! The pre-ceremony music was swing. The bride's processional music was swing. The recessional music as the newlyweds walked up the aisle at the end of the ceremony was Glenn Miller's "In the Mood." And there was a FANTASTIC big band playing at the reception! There was even a bride and groom steal dance and a Shim Sham!
Doug and Melissa Allen met awhile ago at one of our workshops, called "A Day of Dance". They hit it off immediately and after a lovely courtship have now gotten married in the swinginest ceremony and reception we've ever seen! (For those "Princess Bride" fans, Doug and Melissa's minister began the wedding ceremony with these words: "Mawidge. Mawidge is what bwings us togever today." Talk about starting off married life laughing....)
The One-Year Anniversary Party of Rusty & Peter's Rhythm Club was a roaring success, with the highest turn-out since opening night! Loads of friends came out to dance the night away with us to the swingin sounds of Barry Anthony and the Swing of Things Orchestra, featuring the lovely Sylvia Rodriguez! Mr. Maxwell DeMille was our incomparable host for the evenings festivities, which included a Lindy Limbo contest (see pictures below), a Dance Derby contest, performances by Rusty & Peter and Tise & Jerry, and of course, music, music, music!!! We wanted to thank Jessica for bringing that wonderful cake, too. And of course, thanks to everyone for coming down and helping us to celebrate our club's anniversary with us!
Robert & Julie fight for the Lindy Limbo Championship -- what style!
Mike Klein and Elise Anderson -- the Lindy Limbo Champs!

See you soon!
*Wondering what the heck a "gate" is? This was a phrase popularized by 1940's comedian, Jerry Colonna, who would holler it out every time he was introduced on the Bob Hope radio program. It was a friendly salutation to a swing cat (dancer or swing music enthusiast).
