NEXT WEEK AT THE RHYTHM CLUB

WEDNESDAY, JUNE 19TH
HOLLYWOOD SCREEN-SWING DANCE LEGEND

JEAN VELOZ SPECIAL GUEST AT THE RHYTHM CLUB

Jean pictured here with Chuck

We've been waiting for a year to bring our idol, Jean Veloz to the Rhythm Club, and now it's happening. Yes, on Wednesday, June 19th, Miss Veloz will be our special guest.

Jean Veloz is one of the greatest, most stylish dancers from the original swing era. We love her! We idolize her! And we love to dance with her. Many of you have seen her in the 1940's films " The Groovy Movie" and "Swing Fever". Once you've seen her dancing in those clips, you never forget her!

She will be honoring all of us with her presence and a special display with Peter, and we will be doing our best to honor her with throngs of admirers (that's YOU!) and an honorary certificate of appreciation from all of us in the dance community.

In the 1940s, Jean was teamed with Frank Veloz, one of the all-time great ballroom dancers. She will be bringing along Frank's son, Guy, who has never seen our swing resurgence. Let's show him what it's all about!

P.S. Remember, this is the night that the admission price goes up to $7.00

PICTURES ON LINE FROM RUSTY AND PETER'S
MAY 2002 EUROPEAN TRIP

Rusty & Peter teach their class one of the Lindy fundamentals -- Peckin'!

We finally have all our pictures on line from our big European Adventure...check them out! We are sending that link as a separate email.

The trip was a great one: Rusty went over to Europe first, and taught a couple of classes for the local swing scene in Zurich, Switzerland. She then enjoyed a few days of vacation in St. Moritz with Swiss Lindy Hop pal, Lorenz Ilg!

She then ventured to Munich, Germany where she was met by Peter! They did some CD shopping in the enormous jazz section of a store called Ludwig Beck! That same night, they taught two classes for the Munich performance team, called the Boogie Baerens. The following night, there was a great get-together for all the teachers and staff at a beer garden in the town of Landsberg am Lech, where the actual seminar is held. Next morning, the seminar began, with Rusty and Peter teaching in every single time slot for the whole camp. Four hundred students attended the three-day seminar, with hundreds more dancers showing up each night for the spectacular evening dance parties. Rusty and Peter performed at each of these events, including their trio performance of a tap routine called "Eddie Brown's B.S. Chorus", with Thomas Baierle, the tap instructor for the seminar. (This is the dance that many of you saw Rusty and Peter do at the Rhythm Club the week prior to Rusty's departure!) The camp was a great success and Rusty and Peter made lots of great new friends!

Then, Peter came home and Rusty's adventures continued! She traveled next to Gent, Belgium, where she visited her friend, Lieven DeBrauwer, one of Belgium's top young filmmakers. They spent a happy, relaxing couple of days wandering around this beautiful, historic town.

And then she was off to Holland to spend some time with a family she's know for years. (And imagine this...not through swing dancing!!!) She got a chance to see a lot of the Dutch countryside and catch up with friends she has known for many years. Then, back to work...

She traveled up to the town of Zwolle, as the special guest teacher at Holland's International Tap Dance Day celebration. This took place in a stunning, 100-year old Dutch farm that has been converted to a dance studio, and was attended by 50 tap dance students from around the Netherlands.

The next day, she found herself in London, as one of the special guest teachers at the U.K.'s International Tap Dance Day celebration. Probably the humorous highlight of this festival was that she taught her first class outside in the pouring rain, as the building had yet to be unlocked for the day. (Rather apropos, eh? "Singin' in the rain...")

Rusty's trip wound down with a few relaxing days visiting with friends, sightseeing in London, and seeing her cousin Bryan in his West End show, "The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (Abridged)"

We always love these overseas jaunts, and hope that you all have as much fun checking out the photos included here!!! Enjoy!

*Wondering what the heck a "gate" is?  This was a phrase popularized by 1940's comedian, Jerry Colonna, who would holler it out every time he was introduced on the Bob Hope radio program.  It was a friendly salutation to a swing cat (dancer or swing music enthusiast).
