QUOTE OF THE WEEK
On with dance, let joy be unconfined, is my motto; whether there's any dance to dance or
any joy to unconfined.
-- Mark Twain

SEE YOU THERE!
THIS SUNDAY, AUGUST 18TH
MORA'S MODERN RHYTHMISTS!!!
Coming up on Sunday afternoon, August 18th, Mora's Modern Rhythmists will be on hand with their incredible vintage swing sounds! You won't want to miss them -- they are simply one of the most talented bands anywhere. The coordinator of the Concerts in the Park rushed up to Rusty and Peter at last Sunday's event at Polliwog Park and asked them to teach a basic swing class when Mora's band played next month. They said they would be delighted, so make sure to come down and bring all your friends who might be interested in this thing called swing, and help support Lindy by The Sea while you're at it! Rusty will still be out of town (WAY out of town -- St. Petersburg, actually...) but Peter will be there, teaching the lesson as best he can, with a special guest teacher yet to be announced... So make sure to set aside the time NOW to come down for a truly great afternoon of music and dancing in Manhattan Beach as Mora's Modern Rhythmists swing Polliwog Park!!!

SATURDAY, AUGUST 24, 2002
Coming up Saturday, August 24th, Rusty & Peter will join Bill Elliott and other terrific swing scene luminaries for a day-long event filled with classes and even a great evening dance to wind up the day's festivities! This spectacular day of swing is being produced by the Retroglide Dance Studio! Chandler Smith and Jerry Jordan run the Retroglide Dance Studio with style and grace, teaching Lindy Hop as well as other ballroom and latin dances. They've had amazing success with their studio over the last couple of years and we wish them continued success in the years to come!

MANHATTAN BEACH ARTS FESTIVAL!!
SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 8TH
WATCH OUR STUDENTS PERFORM!!!
As many of you know, the City of Manhattan Beach hosts a
street-fair-styled Arts Festival in the downtown area of Manhattan
Beach every year. Situated mostly on Manhattan Beach Boulevard near
Highland Avenue, it's a huge party with lots of food, art activities, and...LIVE PERFORMANCES! Last year we were lucky enough
to be asked to bring our Performance team down to show the crowd just
what this Lindy Hop business is all about. Well, let's just say the team
knocked the crowd out!
This year, we are proud to tell you that we have been asked back to
perform again!!! So mark your calendars now and make plans to come
down and enjoy all that the Manhattan Beach Arts Festival has to
offer...AND cheer loudly for your Lindy By The Sea pals as they cut loose
again and wow the audience with some incredible Lindy Hop
performances!!! Rusty and Peter will be joining the performers and we're
sure it's going to be a ball! Come on down!!!
Make sure to mark your calendars now and tell all your friends that the next great series of swing dance classes in the South Bay begin on the first three days of September! Rusty and Peter will be returning with their trademark teaching style for another four-week series of classes in Lindy Hop and everyone is invited!!! Set aside the dates and plan on joining us -- and don't forget, for those of you who have been with us for awhile, you can always come back through the classes again to brush up your technique and styling, or learn the "other side"!! WHERE'S RUSTY...THIS WEEK???
SWING CITY STOCKHOLM! This week finds our intrepid traveler part of
another world-renowned swing dance camp in the gorgeous city of
Stockholm, Sweden! Here she will revel in the amazingly long Swedish
days (and all too brief nights), before preparations for her next amazing
adventure -- judging at the World Lindy Hop Championships!!!
See you soon!
*Wondering what the heck a "gate" is? This was a phrase popularized by 1940's comedian, Jerry Colonna, who would holler it out every time he was introduced on the Bob Hope radio program. It was a friendly salutation to a swing cat (dancer or swing music enthusiast).
