QUOTE OF THE WEEK

I do not try to dance better than anyone else.
I only try to dance better than myself.

BEGINNER'S SWING CLASS FROM 7:30-8:00
WITH RUSTY & PETER!

Don't forget!!! This Wednesday night is the first Wednesday of the month, so we're having our free beginner's lesson from 7:30pm until 8:00pm! If you know of anyone who has been interested in learning how to swing dance, this is the perfect opportunity!!! Rusty and Peter will be teaching a simple lesson for people who have never set foot on a dancefloor before, and doing it all with their trademark charm and style. So tell all your friends that this is the chance they've been waiting for!!!

SWING RUEDA THIS WEEK!!

ALSO: due to overwhelming popular demand, we will be doing a Swing Rueda this Wednesday night at the Rhythm Club around 9:45pm!!! For everyone who ever learned even a little bit of this great dance, make sure to be there and join in the fun -- Rusty and Peter will lead a very brief refresher on the various steps and passes so everyone can recall them, then it's on with the show!!! For those of you who don't know what a Swing Rueda is...it's sort of like a square dance, but done in a circle, with swing moves. As the dance goes along, a caller calls out different moves and passes so that parnters change again and again throughout! It's absolutely one of the most exhilarating and fun things we've seen in swing dancing in a long time, and you won't want to miss it!!! Remember -- 9:45pm!

AND Save the date: September 25th, we're gonna have another live band, Jonathan Stout and His Campus Five featuring vocalist Hilary Alexander!

8:00-11:30pm -- Dance! Dance! Dance!

Admission only $7!!

Dance Lesson on the first Wednesday of each month
from 7:30-8:00
(check our calendar)

Make your plans now to join us
at Rusty & Peter's Rhythm Club!

SWING DANCE SERIES STARTS!!!

NEW CLASSES HAVE BEGUN, BUT IT'S NOT TOO LATE TO JOIN!!!

That's right, our latest series of Lindy Hop classes have begun in Manhattan Beach, but that doens't mean you've missed your chance for this month!! We always accept students up to the second week of classes in a series, so if you were just taking it easy over the last weekend (what with Labor Day festivities and all...) we'd LOVE to see you in class this coming Sunday or Monday!!! There's no need to wait until our next series of classes in October -- JOIN NOW!

On a related note, WE NEED MORE MEN IN CLASS! All of our Sunday and Monday classes have LOTS more women than men and we need your help to balance things out!! If you are a guy who has been thinking about coming back to classes -- to learn more, brush up your technique, whatever -- now's the time. We need you!! For that matter, if you are a woman and you've been interested in learning how to lead, this could be your golden opportunity. Whatever the case may be, we could really use your help, so come down to Lindy By The Sea this coming Sunday and/or Monday!! Thanks!!!!

And remember, our featured class this month will be Balboa Variations. This has been our featured class for the past two series, and such a hit, that the vote was to carry on with the fun. Come along and join. You can learn your Balboa basic in the 7:00-8:00 class and then stick around to learn some great moves.

LOCAL DANCE FAVORITES RON & ROBIN CAMPBELL

TAKE TOP HONORS IN DANCE CONTEST!!!

Last week saw some excellent dancing at Rusty and Peter's Rhythm Club as the roving dance contest known as the Great Southwest Swing-Off touched down for the night! Dancers came from all over to compete in this event and the contest was fierce! Nine couples competed in several heats to different tempos of music and boy were they terrific. Lots of our own friends joined in and represented the Rhythm Club in fine fashion. But when all the smoke had cleared and the judges had conferred, one couple took home first place -- our own Ron and Robin Campbell!!! We couldn't be more proud of our friends -- their dancing really was spectacular and we know you all will join us in giving them a hearty congratulations! And don't forget, as the winners of this local contest, they will be representing our club at the big Final Contest, held at the upcoming Satin Ballroom on September 21st! Make your plans now to attend and cheer our pals on in this great event!!!

LINDY BY THE SEA TO APPEAR AT
MANHATTAN BEACH ARTS FESTIVAL!!
SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 8TH

WATCH OUR STUDENTS PERFORM!!!

As many of you know, the City of Manhattan Beach hosts a street-fair-styled Arts Festival in the downtown area of Manhattan Beach every year. Situated mostly on Manhattan Beach Boulevard near Highland Avenue, it's a huge party with lots of food, art activities, and...LIVE PERFORMANCES! Last year we were lucky enough to be asked to bring our Performance team down to show the crowd just what this Lindy Hop business is all about. Well, let's just say the team knocked the crowd out! This year, we are proud to tell you that we have been asked back to perform again!!! So mark your calendars now and make plans to come down and enjoy all that the Manhattan Beach Arts Festival has to offer...AND cheer loudly for your Lindy By The Sea pals as they cut loose again and wow the audience with some incredible Lindy Hop performances!!! Rusty and Peter will be joining the performers and we're sure it's going to be a ball! Come on down!!!

SPECIAL NOTE FOR LEVEL 3 FOLKS: Don't forget!! If you are in our Level Three class on Sunday afternoon, we are delaying the time of the class until 5:00pm so we can take part in the Arts Festival performances. This way, we can all come down and enjoy the performances, and then class will run from 5:00 until 6:30pm that evening!

AND ONE LAST THING REGARDING PARKING--

We have spoken to some of the people in charge of the Manhattan Beach Arts Festival and there is NO SHUTTLE SERVICE to the Festival from anywhere. There have been rumors floating around about free shuttles to the Arts Fest from local high schools, but the representatives with whom we spoke said that these are just rumors. There are no shuttles. Waaaaahhhh!!! SO do plan to come, but come early to get that parking! For more info, click HERE.

*Wondering what the heck a "gate" is?  This was a phrase popularized by 1940's comedian, Jerry Colonna, who would holler it out every time he was introduced on the Bob Hope radio program.  It was a friendly salutation to a swing cat (dancer or swing music enthusiast).
