QUOTE OF THE WEEK
"When I dance, I cannot judge, I cannot hate, I cannot separate myself from life. I can
only be joyful and whole, that is why I dance."
-- Hans Bos

SEE YOU THERE!
As some of you already know, Rusty and Peter lost one of their large cases of CDs,
holding about 200 discs representing six years or so of collecting. This happened after
a job they did a little while ago where they taught a beginners swing class to a large
group and then DJed the rest of the dance. They aren't sure if the CDs were left there,
or were possibly taken from the event, or even stolen from Peter's car at some point in
the packing and unpacking process.

SUNDAYS AND MONDAYS
OCTOBER 27-NOVEMBER 18TH 2002
BEGINNERS SWING CLASS ON MONDAY NIGHTS -- TONIGHT!!
7PM - 8PM
We are happy to announce that we will be offering a Monday Night beginners swing class from 7:00 until 8:00, for all those of you for whom Sunday afternoons are tricky! This will be the same material offered in our Sunday afternoon Level One class, so if you've been looking for a weeknight beginners class, this is the one for you! (Neptunian Woman's Club, 920 Highland Avenue, Manhattan Beach)
Also on Monday nights is Charleston Variations, our Featured Class this time around!
This is always one of our most popular Featured Classes and we are expecting a great
turnout, especially with the resurgence that Charleston moves are experiencing on the
swing dance floors all over!!! Plan on coming down and learning all sorts of fun, easy
moves to add to your repetoire...you'll love it!
Our ten-week swing dance series at USC is going great! About 60 students (depending on their midterms and finals schedules) have been attending our classes and what a joy to see them turn into "lindy hoppers". They are really coming along, and last week learned how to do their first official lindy move -- the Lindy Circle. Rah! Rah! If you see any of them at the Rhythm Club, make sure to make them feel welcome!
October 23, 2002
Last week, your teachers and Rhythm Club hosts once again put on their performance hats. Rusty did a nifty tap routine to "It Don't Mean a Thing..." and Peter joined songstress Hilary Alexander for two tunes along with the Campus Five. Thanks to Jonathan Stout and his excellent organization; The Campus Five is the newest band sensation to hit our swing scene. Congrats to Jonathan, Hilary, and the rest of the "Five"!

Finally, Rusty found an extra week in her life to update our Scrapbook. Yes, that means that we are fully up to date for 2002. Check it out!!! You just might find yourself there... CLICK HERE for five new pages of photos (that's just about 100!!!!)

-- American National Biography Online -- You all may not be aware of this, but your swing
teachers, Rusty and Peter, are also writers! Rusty Frank, of course, has written the
highly acclaimed "bible" of tap dance books, "TAP! The Greatest Tap Dance Stars and
Their Stories 1900-1955". And Peter is an aspiring writer of essays and short stories
of diverse types and styles.

Tap Dance legend Gene Nelson for American National Biography Online, has been
released! So we thought we'd honor this by making it the Link of the Week! Check it out
and see what a gifted writer your teacher is!
One last note, from now on, we will put any special Swing Shift Rhythm Club announcements below. There's one today. Check it out!
*Wondering what the heck a "gate" is? This was a phrase popularized by 1940's comedian, Jerry Colonna, who would holler it out every time he was introduced on the Bob Hope radio program. It was a friendly salutation to a swing cat (dancer or swing music enthusiast).
