"It [dance] is an art that imprints on the soul. It is with you every moment - even after you give it up. It is with you every moment of your day and night. It is an art that expresses itself in how you walk, how you eat ... and how you do NOTHING. It is the art of the body, and as long as a dancer possesses a body, he or she feels the call of expression in dancers' terms."Shirley MacLaine

KATIA GOES TO SWING CAMP CATALINA AND MORE!
Here's a letter from Katia to everyone:
Thank you for supporting me;
You've been very helpful, it's incredible that I'm here, but I'm here!
The pleasure was all mine to meet you and to dance with you.
This is my visit really surprising:
I didn't expect to see good-natured and open-hearted people, like you.
I'll be longing for all of you (!) and California too.
It's amazing place and I hope that someday I'll come again...
Thank you for take care about me;
Especially for Rusty: she is so cute, for me she like second mama :o)
You must appreciate her - she is amazing!
Thank you so much!!!
It really continues to be an amazing time for Katia. Last week she did had so many more adventures, especially Swing Camp Catlina! Last night she got to go to Maxwell's At The Argyle for an evening of dining and dancing. Today she's off to the Getty Museum and again Paladinos. Thursday she's off to Universal Studios. There's still a little open time, so if you would like to host her Wednesday day or Friday day/night, give a call to the office; 310 606 5606, and maybe we can set something up
SPECIAL THANKS to all her hosts this week, let's see if we can name them all: Wednesday: Sophie for shopping and a spa(!), Thursday: Skeephee driving to the Catalina Express and some Long Beach site-seeing, Thursday-Sunday: huge thanks to the folks at PBDA Pasadena Ballroom Dance Association for donating a full pass to Swing Camp Catalina, Marguerite for sharing her hotel room, and Michael and Cheryl for bringing her back to the mailand on their boat "Old Glory," Monday: Nancy Niparko and Robert Vangor for taking her to Maxwell's, Tuesday: Andy and Victor taking her out to dinner and the Getty.
YOU CAN STILL HELP! We've done just great on the fundraising. But if you want to contribute, remember, we can never have too much. Extra money will go back with Katia for the Lindy Hop scene there. Check the site for details! Click HERE
The ever-fun Laughlin Lindy Dance camp is comin' up this August. Rusty'll be on hand as one of the teachers (wait till you see the list of instructors!). This camp is probably the most "affordable" of all the swing dance camps, as the $219 includes transportation, three nights in hotel, three meals, all classes and dances! Why don't we see if we can get a Lindy By The Sea gang for this one. Email: email@example.com, call 310-530-0500, or check out their website HERE. Tell them, "Rusty sent me".
If any of you would like to have a private swing dance lesson,
give Rusty a call at 310.606.5606.
BANU GIBSON Haven't heard of her yet? Well, here's a treat. She's based out of New Orleans, but makes a few trips to the Coast each year for performances (Jazz Sweet and Hot this year!). She's got a brand new website up, and, boy, is it a beaut! Take a listen to some of her new recordings, especially those with jazz legend Bucky Pizzarelli. She and Rusty have long been friends, first meeting at the Derby around 1992. Wow! You may remember that Banu invited Rusty and a team of lindy hoppers to perform with her at the Playboy Jazz Festival a couple years back -- and where could that be, you guessed it -- the Hollywood Bowl!
* Wondering what the heck a "gate"is? This was a phrase popularized by 1940's comedian, Jerry Colonna, who would holler it out every time he was introduced on the Bob Hope radio program. It was a friendly salutation to a swing cat (dancer or swing music enthusiast).
