This Week's Celebrations
If it's your birthday this week, just let us know at the Rhythm Club so you can get your birthday dance!
We're all still reeling from the fantastic weekend! First we all went to Fort MacArthur for an afternoon dance with the Fabulous Esquires. This event marked the 62 year anniversary of the 1942 Los Angeles Air Raid. Huell Howser was on hand to film the event for his "California Gold" television program.
The afternoon also included a mock drill headed up by our very own John Kanaster. Take a look on our new scrapbook page for pics of the day.
Imagine 50 swing dancers dancing up a storm in the lobby of the Redondo Beach Performing Arts Center Saturday nite surrounded by admiring and cheering patrons, and you're beginning to get the picture of the fun we all had Saturday night at the "Swing!" show.
One of the highlights (aside from the superb show) was when 82-year old Herb Rosen jumped out of the crowd and started dancing like a wild man with Rusty. And when we say "wild", we mean it! He even picked her up in the air more than once with the strength of a 20-year old. Needless to say, the crowd went crazy!
James Blackman, Executive director of the theatre, sent over this note in response to a thank you note from Rusty:
Rusty that opening night with you guys tearing up the lobby was hot I had more fun that night than I have had in had in years! No... I love you! Thank you for joining me
And remember, you can also get 1/2 priced tickets by calling the box office and saying you are on "Rusty's List". 310 372-4477Here's the LINK for the show.

Maxwell's at the Argyle: One of our favorite nite spots will be temporarily closing its doors at the end of March. We wanted to make sure that you knew about this sensational club -- Maxwell's at the Argyle. Our favorite master of ceremonies, Mr. Maxwell DeMille, has been bringing us the classiest of vintage entertainment for the past two years. Don't miss out on your last chance to visit this historic venue in its current form before the hotel closes down for remodeling.
* Wondering what the heck a "gate"is? This was a phrase popularized by 1940's comedian, Jerry Colonna, who would holler it out every time he was introduced on the Bob Hope radio program. It was a friendly salutation to a swing cat (dancer or swing music enthusiast).

hospitals, and entertain and dance at street fairs. The purpose of the
