When we come to the end of time
For the good are always the merry

SHOUT AND FEEL IT TO PERFORM AT RHYTHM CLUB
Plenty of Lindy-By-The-Sea and Rhythm Club dancers were in attendance at this year's fantastic Swing Camp Catalina. Sun, friends, fun, dancing, music, all in the setting of historic Santa Catalina Island. I want to again thank the Stevens' family for putting on such a labor of love. This was their 11th year producing this amazingly complex event (they have to rent a barge! to bring everything out... I wouldn't even know how to begin to rent a barge!). This was my eight Swing Camp, and just as fun as ever. I've posted many of my pictures on our scrapbook page HERE. But, here's a sampling.
Thanks to all the men who answered the call for Tuesday classes last week. We were just about even. But there are still more women in the two classes. If you would like to come along, drop in! This class is not sequential, so you'll be fine. We'll be teaching some of the wonderful moves learned at Swing Camp Catalina tonite!
That's right -- you read it correctly. We've been overwhelmed with requests for more Balboa at all levels. So, we had a brainstorm, why not turn Tuesday nite into Balboa Crazy Nite! The 7:30-8:30 series will be Basic Balboa, and then the 8:30-9:30 (which is normally Level 4) will be an intermediate/advanced Balboa. We've been learning Bal moves from dancers around the world, and we promise to bring in moves you have NEVER learned before!! Come out of the woodwork! For those dancers (who shall remain nameless -- but we know who you are -- wink), come and join us again!!
We've starting something brand new: If you pre-register for class(es), you'll get a 10% discount off the normal prices. You can pre-register over the phone (310 606 5606), by check, or with http://paypal.com (just figure out the price with discount... and email to email@example.com). We hope that you'll enjoy taking advantage of this new offer...

This Week's Celebrations
If it's your birthday this week, just let us know at the Rhythm Club so you can get your birthday dance!
Sigh. What can we say? Whenever we get the chance to perform on the beautiful Queen Mary in Long Beach, we are in 7th Heaven. The chance came last Wednesday for Rusty, Ron, Gio, Mae, Hilary (of Camp Hollywood fame), and Annamarie (of Revamp fame). Our job? To swing dance in the Queen Salon to the Jumpin Joz swing band! Hilary and Annamarie walked around as 1930's cigarette girls, and looked absolutely adorable. What an afternoon! Take a look HERE
Rusty's book, "TAP! The Greatest Tap Dance Stars and Their Stories 1900-1955" has once again been reprinted. She wrote the book during the years 1988-1990. It was first published in 1990, and has been in print ever since! If you don't have a copy yet, here's your chance. You can get your very own personally autographed copy. For more information on TAP! click HERE.
We couldn't have been more surprised and shocked, but Augie actually walked in the door Tuesday evening for Lindy-By-The-Sea classes! We first thought he was his twin (he has an identical one), but upon question, it was him! Turns out, he had been awake for four days and come straight away to swing class (took an evac helicopter, a transport ship, a plane...). Needless to say, we had a "welcome home" dance at the end of classes.
We were deeply moved to know how much swing dance means to Augie.
He hasn't received our package yet... it missed him when he was transferred, but he was so grateful for the thought (we told him everything that is in it) and assures us that it will get to him.
Sadly, he is here because his mother is ill with cancer. He is requesting a "compassionate transfer" home. Cross your fingers for him.
If you would like to email him: firstname.lastname@example.org
SHOUT AND FEEL IT: We thought you might like to read a little about this sensational performance group that will be performing this week (tomorrow nite!) at the Rhythm Club. They more than impressed everyone at Swing Camp Catalina this weekend with the phenomenal performance routines, energy, and zow!
* Wondering what the heck a "gate"is? This was a phrase popularized by 1940's comedian, Jerry Colonna, who would holler it out every time he was introduced on the Bob Hope radio program. It was a friendly salutation to a swing cat (dancer or swing music enthusiast).
JOIN THE SWING SHIFT RHYTHM CLUB TODAY!
Swing Shift Rhythm Club (SSRC) is the volunteer arm of our local swing
dance community. Through the SSRC, we visit senior homes, children
hospitals, and entertain and dance at street fairs. The purpose of the
club is to do some good deeds and promote the fun of swing dancing.
